Dear
Faculty,
Our goal is to provide you with a positive teaching experience. Small technical problems such as login into our computers, or corrupted files, may take valuable time off your sessions here. In this page you’ll find some steps you can take to reduce those problems. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any of your questions.
IN SHORT:

Faculty
& TA’s
– we will set a personal login account for you and your TA’s, or a general
course login account (useful for large courses offered every quarter). Please
contact us if you lost your account information.
Students -
accounts are automatically generated for undergraduate students enrolled in any
Physical/Life Science courses (User ID: Bruin ID; password: student ID). The
system however is not error free.
Please encourage your students to visit any of the SLC labs before your first
class here to make sure they can login. We will be able to assist your students
and create new accounts if needed. If problems arise while you are here, our lab
attendant will be able to login your students using a temporary account (SLC
Help Desk is located in room 4351).
Extension Students
–
accounts are not automatically assigned for extension students. To get an
account students will need a university ID (Bruin card), and a proof of taking a
PS or LS course (a note from an instructor will do).
If you
are providing us with software please let us know as early as possible.
Ideally, we would like to have a copy 2
weeks before the quarter starts, or at least 2 weeks before your class is
scheduled here (For Winter Quarter classes, a week before the Holiday closure).
This will give us enough time for troubleshooting if needed.
Please note licenses are needed for commercial software.
SLC
computers are updated on a regular basis. As a result your program may require
updates as well. Please, visit SLC at least a week before your class to ensure
that all is working well.
A class
folder can be created upon your request.
Files, such as PowerPoint presentations, excel, movies, and assignments;
will be accessible to all your students on all SLC computers.
Please note, only the technical manager
(Marek) and the Program manager (Smadar) can upload files to your course folder.
Students can save their work onto the SLC server. The files are accessible from
any SLC computer and are kept until the end of the quarter.
We
recommend having your TA meeting here. Time
permitting we may be able to offer a short presentation on how to login, save,
and the use of the SmartBoard technology.
THANK
YOU!

& Marek
