The California Teach seminar classes are the logical place to start your exploration of teaching.
Each two unit seminar includes:

1.       90 minute on-campus seminar, once a week, for 10 weeks

2.       30 hours of paid observation, participating and assisting in local K-12 schools

Ideally, you should begin your California Teach involvement in your first or second year (transfer students are welcome and encouraged to apply).  While many pathways are possible, we recommend the route outlined below.
In your first quarter of involvement, you will enroll in California Teach 1 (CaT1).  You will choose your area of focus – either math or science.  The two-unit seminar course will meet once per week, on Tuesday’s from 4:00-5:30pm.  Your 30-hour field-work involvement will be in a local elementary school.  In exchange for the 30-hour commitment, you will receive a $600 stipend from the State of California.*
Once you have completed CaT1, you will be eligible for California Teach 2 (CaT2).  You will again choose your area of focus – either math or science. The two-unit seminar course will meet once per week, on Wednesday’s from 4:00-5:30pm.  Your 30-hour field work involvement will be in a local middle school.  In exchange for the 30-hour commitment, you will receive a $600 stipend from the State of California.*
Once you have completed CaT2, you will be eligible for California Teach 3 (CaT3).  You will again choose your area of focus – either math or science.  If you choose the science focus, your 30-hour commitment will be in a local high school.  In exchange for the 30-hour commitment, you will receive a $600 stipend.* For the math focus, you will enroll in Math 330, which is a 3-quarter series in which you commit 12 hours of observation per quarter in a local high school.  There is no prerequisite for Math 330. Refer to the links below for more information.
